Tip 19: Automatic masking of backgrounds in PhotoModeler DSM creation

Often when creating Dense Surface Models (DSM) you need to trim out part of the image to reduce noise and improve efficiency. This trimming is done with DSM Trims – which are user-defined polygonal regions.

For a more precise and somewhat more automated trimming method, DSM Masks can be used. A DSM Mask is a pixel by pixel map of what should and should not be in the DSM extraction. DSM Masks can be created in external programs or PhotoModeler can use a chroma-key approach to extract a mask out of a constant color background (what the movie industry called blue or green screen). This video demonstrates DSM masking via chroma-key / background extraction.
