Industrial Measurement
3D Scanning of surfaces is a common requirement in industry and manufacturing. Often industrial parts are made of plastic or metal and do not have a visible texture - a requirement of PhotoModeler Scanner's photographic-based matching process. Such surfaces can be scanned by placing/painting/spraying a random pattern on them, or for non-contact, a pattern can be projected (if object is stationary).
Phone Handset with Projected Pattern
This figure shows a manufactured assembly. In this case it has no natural texture so a random dot pattern was projected on it before photography. Two photographs were taken ensuring the coded targets were sufficiently lit by the projected ambient light. One 3D Viewer shows the raw point cloud and the other the raw triangulated mesh.
