Scanning Mars

PhotoModeler Scanner Screen Shot PhotoModeler Scanner is a new product from Eos Systems that analyzes stereo imagery to produce dense 3D point clouds and surfaces - called Digital Surface Models (DSM). The new Mars lander, the Phoenix, has a stereo camera called the SSI. While we are not involved in the Phoenix project we thought it would be fun to pass some of the publicly available Phoenix stereo imagery through PhotoModeler Scanner to produce 3D models of the Mars surface.

We have completed a few test projects of which two are shown on our Mars application page. One shows a 3D surface model of the first scoop taken out of the soil by the robotic shovel on the lander. We've created a video showing the results with a descriptive voice over. The video is on YouTube (sometimes you need to reload a few times to show) or see our higher resolution version.

New Version with Floating License Support

PhotoModeler 6.2.2 (a free upgrade for PhotoModeler 6 customers), has just been released with a number of fixes and improvements. See the new version page for more information.

PhotoModeler now supports full network floating licensing. A network floating license is a license to open a PhotoModeler session on any PC attached to a local-area network. A group of PhotoModeler users can then share a pool of available licenses without requiring a separate individual license for each user. For example, if you have a team of 10 but only a maximum of 3 ever use PhotoModeler concurrently, you could use a 3 seat floating license instead of 10 stand-alone seats, for a considerable savings. Contact our sales department for pricing.
