iPhone Camera Project
As Eos Systems, the developer of PhotoModeler, is based in Vancouver, the host city of the Winter 2010 Olympics, we thought it would be fun to create a related 3D project. In addition, one of the more iconic new devices around has to be the iPhone 3GS. Does the iPhone's camera work with photogrammetry? Can you make a 3D model using PhotoModeler and the iPhone's camera? We have the answers to both questions.

The iPhone's 3GS camera does make a reasonable camera for PhotoModeler use. It does not have the resolution or speed of a modern digital camera but it is very convenient and the picture quality is reasonable.

The project model is of an Inukshuk - an Inuit stone statue. On the waterfront in Vancouver is a famous Inukshuk that many say is one of the inspirations of the games' symbol. One of our staff was close to the statue recently and thought, "Why not see if I can model this and use the iPhone camera to do it?" He took a number of photographs of the statue with his iPhone 3gs, pulled them into PhotoModeler Scanner and produced an accurate 3D point cloud and model. Read more about the project on the iPhone Project Page.

If you are located in a geographic region without current PhotoModeler representation (as shown on this reseller page) and are interested in reselling the top 3D close-range photogrammetry product in the world, please send Matt Klymson, Director of Sales (matt@eossystems.com) an email with information about your company. We are also interested in non-exclusive relationships in North America for unique market segments.
